    Question:
I just bought a new riding mower, YTH22V42. The operater's manual calls for the first oil change at 50 hours.

I have been told by my retailer that I should change it after 10 hours this first time. Do I really need to since it has an oil filter to catch any of those "leftovers" from manufacturing?

For those of us that rebuild engine the service manual recommends 5 hours for the first oil change and yes these is particles that are small than 25 microns that can pass right thru the oil filter and are suspended in the engine oil. Matter of fact I drained a Honda ATV that was rebuilt and there so much fine aluminum particles in the oil that it turns the oil silver in the sunlight. I even pump the oil thru a filter and it was still there.
