    Question:
I have a Husqvarna YTH23V48. The rear tires (20"x8") are supposed to be turf savers, and they get very little traction, especially when the grass is at all wet or the tractor is on a side slope.
The tires just spin and burn out the grass anyway, so they aren't exactly saving any turf.

Is it possible to replace these with more aggressive tires? I don't see any on Husqvarna's accessories lists.

Thank you for contacting the AnswerARMY.

It is upsetting that you have had this concern.

First it is suggested that you NEVER use the mower when it is raining or the grass is wet, also the mower will not perform and as you are finding out you may lose traction. Also if you are losing traction as you are mowing across a slop the slope is to steep to mowed across. Per the OM the very first page states "Mow up and down slopes, not across." also "Do not mow on wet grass. Tires may lose traction.".

Please review the "Safety Rules" section of the operators manual.

It is not recommended that tires be changed as that would lead to unsafe operation.

If you want to improve traction I would reduce the air pressure in the tires.

EXPLAIN. Why would changing tires be unsafe? Please provide more complete answers. I want to change to rear ATV tires from 20 to 23, and front from 15 to 18. There seems to be enough clearance and turning space. That would smooth out the rough ride, and raise the inadequate 3.5 inch maximum cutting height to 4.25, and give the rear tires some bite. The tires Husq puts on the tractors do indeed lack traction even in fairly dry conditions.

Well, I try not to mow when it's actually raining or very wet.  But just a little morning or evening dew is enough to get me stuck, especially in the corners where the grass is shaded and doesn't dry quickly.  A busy homeowner can't always afford to wait around until conditions are perfect to mow the lawn.  It has to be fit in between the soccer practices and piano lessons.

And part of my lawn is 100 yards along the hill and 20 yards up and down the hill.  So it would take forever to go up and down.  Besides, it's impossible to make a sharp turn at the bottom because then you're both on a side slope and trying to turn, which requires even more traction.

So it just needs some better tires.
