Dear Rod,
This is a great question for Answer Army. Husqvarna along with many tiller manufacturers use a square cut gear box with a small bevel. It is never recommended to change the gear while the unit is operating because the gears will just grind. Be sure to choose your tilling range gear first before operation. If you want to change the gear come to a complete stop, try rocking your tiller back and forth gently, and then change the gear for a smoother shift.
Thank you for contacting Answer Army.
that a good answer but that doeesn't always work. they should change the way they build them. they should use some kink os synchronized system
i also have a drt900h i bought it 2015 summer i only used it for the first time in may i used it once and when i used it the next day the top of the handle bar broke of including the control box i contacted husqvarna and i am getting the run around for nearly 2 months
I have the same problem, only worse. When I first got the tiller I was already used to the shifting mechanism from having an older Craftsman model. So I get this brand new Husqvarna and am already aware of the need to rock the tiller forward and back a little sometimes to make it shift smoothly. However, this tiller after just a few hours of use is nearly impossible to shift. No amount of rocking makes any difference. Now once it warms up and has run for a half hour or so, I can't shift it at all, even with the engine off! Last time I ran it I put it away with it in forward till and just hoped it would shift after it cooled down. Luckily I was able to shift it the next day after much rocking and effort, without starting the engine, but this has been a problem all three times I have run it and it appears to have gotten worse. While I'm tilling I have only been able to shift into reverse for a short time; it becomes increasingly more difficult as it runs until it becomes impossible to shift at all, running or not.
I need a REMEDY to this situation, not a suggestion that has proven worthless. Please help!
