    Question:
I just bought an LGT2554 tractor to replace my YTH2042 which has been a great lawn tractor. This tractor has no power and smokes really bad on hills... what is wrong?
    Details:

I mainly purchased this because I have a Johnny Bucket Jr. I use and needed the extra power.  I mowed with the new tractor 3 times and now it is in the shop... the motor smokes really bad if I am on a hill with the right side facing down the hill.  There is also very little power, a friend has a JD LT135 and I can't keep up with him unless he is at 1/2 throttle... I am very frustrated with this tractor!!  The YTH2042 had 0 problems in 4 years of use and the new one hasn't been reliable at all!  I loved Husqvarna but now I'm wondering if this was a HUGE mistake... I sold my YTH2042.

    Dear Kris,

Thanks for contacting us at Answer Army, my advice at this time is to make sure you have the unit inspected by an authorized Husqvarna servicing dealer.

After the evaluation a decision will be made on the course of action taken to restore the unit to its optimum performance.  Note: a proof of purchase is necessary for all warranty work validation.

Your Dealer is your best and quickest source of information, keep in touch, and we do apologize for any hardships this may be causing.

The tractor is currently at the local authorized Husqvarna service center.  I was told it will be about a week before it is fixed but I was wondering if there is something with these tractor motors I should know about?  The motor is the Kohler Courage V-Twin 25hp.  My initial thought regarding the problems is either the valves are bad or the compression in one of cylinders is low due to bad rings.  If this is the case would the motor be replaced?  Again, I bought this because I needed more power and if this tractor isn't more powerful than my old YTH2042 then it was a waste of money... so far I am disappointed but I hope the service center can get it resolved.

          Dear Kris,

The LGT has 5 more horsepower compared to the YTH 2042 when running correctly.  Your dealer will be the best  source of information regarding the engine status and recourse to resolving the issue.  When the LGT is back in action and running properly I have no doubt that you will be pleased with its performance but untill the authorized dealer evaluates the situation and handles it accordingly.

I hate to say it but you're wrong... this tractor has been in the shop twice for over 3 weeks and it still isn't right.  The dealer keeps telling me there is nothing wrong.  If there isn't anything wrong why does it continue to smoke and the top speed (gps tracked 3 different times) is only 3.5mph?  I am so frustrated with this tractor and the dealer... don't know what else to do!!  Not to mention how easily it gets bogged down when the grass is only 5 inches or so... I normally cut it to 3.5 inches so this shouldn't be an issue.  I wanted to put the mulching kit on it but don't dare because of the power issues.  I really need help to get this thing working correctly.

I have the same model (LGT2554) that I purchased from Lowes on 9/1/11 (less than 10 hours mowing time). After the first mowing, I have had the same problem. Engine smokes very badly when the mower is facing down hill and leaning to the right. The only way I have found to stop it is turn of the blades. I have videos of both scenario's. I have emailed them to the local husqvarna dealer. I am sure it will be going back to the dealer for the third time (who has been very helpful to pick and deliver with no charge and try to repair it). When the dealer returned the mower they stated there was a recall and the blower needed to be replaced along with a new dipstick- the original one was too short showing inaccurate reading causing the mower to have too much oil - thus producing the smoking on hills. My mower is still smoking along with a lack of power on hills and grass cutting issues the same as Kris has stated. I have three questions. Is the recall info I received correct? Do you have a corporate customer service number I can contact and send the video's to? If I want a full refund since it has been used less than 10 hours and under full warranty do I contact Husqvarna or Lowes? Bryan
