    Question:
Hello; I bought my YTH24K48 lawn tractor in March of 2012. It has been reliable and performs well except for one pesky issue; the front tires lose air and go flat. There are no punctures or holes and it seems to occur at random intervals. I check and air as needed but they will hold for a week maybe 4. It has happened to both front tires but never the rear. When they go flat the bead and seal of the tire and rim is very difficult to reseal. This has happened to both fronts and probably about 4 times now. Should I really need to check the air every week? It is a real pain. I wound up putting a tube in the right front and its fine but the tube valve is smaller in diameter then the hole in the rim but it works. Again, a pain. Is there a recall on this or a better solution then checking pressure consistently?? I know that over the winter I don't feel I should have to perform tire pressure checks weekly to avoid this problem. Any help would be appreciated..
    Thanks, Rick

Hi Rick, a tube in the left front would be the best solution, but i have used a rubberised fluid that coates the inside of a small tyre, that when filled with air the fluid cures or becomes not fluid & seals any air leaks, you may be able to get this done at your local tyre shop or dealer where you got your machine from, my ride on mower is 10 - 15 years old & the tyres have cracks on the side walls from age & being left out in the weather, i put some of that sealant in to 3 of the tyres because they would go flat often & that was over a year ago - no flats yet.

      Regards

      Bryan

I recently purchased a new in April '12/ used to me YTH24K48 and one front tire is bald and the other does not hold air whatsoever.

From what the general consensus this is occuring quite frequently and is Supposedly covered by manager warranty as Defective.   Is there a more expiditous means of exchanging the tires vs. letting them sit a t local dealer for weeks until the replacements arrive?

      Thanks,

      Chris

Hi all, I posted the original question so thanks Bryan & Chris for your input. Yes the tube solved it but I guess the rub is how many other people are experiencing this and should get new rims and tires.

When I did install a tube it was not and easy task. Normally someone doesn't have the proper tools for changing out tires and a regular tire shop may not have the tools for dealing with small rims, it is much harder then a bike for sure. Small diameter and wide tire so getting the tube in and positioned correctly is one issue, getting the tire back over the rim (while maintaing tube position) is another then getting the tire bead to set against the rim is still one more.

For anyone installing a tube you may want to ensure that the tube valve stem diameter is the same, or close as you can, to the stem hote in the rim. There's probably a differance.  Also, if you can find a tube that has a threaded valve stem with a nut, this will help with keeping it in position while you work to finish.  I've had and own other things with small inflatable tires and never had to deal with them with the frequency I've have with this tractor. Other then this issue I'm happy, I just don't feel we should need to do airchecks 1-2 times a week or face wrestling match with the tire if we don't.

      Thanks, Rick
