    Question:
I bought a Poulan P3314 in 2011. Immediately, I had trouble starting it. I took it to a dealer to have the compression checked out. They didn't find anything wrong. I am still having great trouble getting it started. This can't be normal for a modern chainsaw. I have damaged my knuckles pulling that cord! Fuel mixture was exact and bar & chain oil is full. Any ideas? Surely Poulan makes their product better than this.

I purchased a Polan Pro 20" from Lowes. I had difficulty starting it, compared to my two Husky's I own. Seems to be temperamental. Is nowhere near my Husky 340. I really find it difficult to believe it was a Husqvarna-owner product.

      Glenn,

I would recommend that you experiment with the starting sequence of the engine, and  I suspect that you are probably flooding the engine. I have recently rebuilt a Poulan chainsaw, and they are infamous for easy flooding, and without getting into engine repairs why this is the case, here are some sequences that may work for you. Once you find the starting sequence, always use that method:

Do not try sequences #1,2, 3 immediately after each other, wait 30 minutes between retries, since repeated sequences will also just flood the engine. And once you find the best sequence, always use that method for starting.., Also If the saw does Not start in two-three good pulls, then stop pulling.

      Sequence #1

First: If you have a primer bulb, Push it in 4-5 tiimes.

Next: Move the Start switch to the "ON" Position.

Next: Put the choke on, and pull it only "one" time.

Finally: Take the choke off, and give it two good consecutive pulls, It should start.

      Sequence #2

First: If you have a primer bulb, Push it in 4-5 tiimes.

Next: Put the choke  half on, and pull it only "one" time.

Next: Move the Start switch to the "ON" Position.

Finally: Take the choke off, and give it two good  repeated and consecutive pulls, It should start.

      Sequence #3

First: If you have a primer bulb, Push it in 4-5 tiimes.

Next: Move the Start switch to the "ON" Position.

Next: Put the choke full on, and pull it twice, but not a hard pull, more gradual and slower pull

Finally: Take the choke off, and give it two good repeated and consecutive pulls, It should start.

I hope one of the sequences work for you.

PS. I had a saw that would not start per the manual directions but sequence 2 worked every time.
