    Question:
OK. I just bought a new Husqvarna chainsaw, model 316EL, a week ago. I can't believe how difficult it's been to try to find additional chains! I've narrowed i down to either H37 or H36-56 but not sure which one or if it's either.

    Husqvarna 316EL
    2000720
    01203597

Which # above is actually the serial number?

Also, is a carbide chain available for this chainsaw?

Thrilled with it so far - except for the chain replacement part! LOL

      Cindy,

The 316E  for  a 16 inch bar, uses an Oregon chain # :

      S56 91 LOW PROFILE™ Chain 56 3/8" .050" 5/32"

This can be easily cross referenced to a Husqvarna #: H36, Your chainsaw uses a 3/8 pitch, .050 gauge bar and drive link thickness, and 56 drive links, Lo profile chain.

DO NOT USE an H37 chain this is the wrong pitch, it is a .325 pitch chain.

SN# is 01203597, the  first  two digits are the date of manufacture.

I hope the above information helps.

PS. A great link is Oregonchain.com, which has tutorials, and will provide lots of info about, chains, chain types, pitch, gauge, etc, etc.
