    Question:
I bought a well-used 150BF blower a couple of years ago and it worked well. Last fall it started having starting and stalling problems, although sometimes it would run well. This spring I installed a carburator kit, carburator gasket, new spark plug, fuel line and filter. Now it starts easily with a couple of hard pulls and runs well at full throttle but but seems weak and wont accelerate from less than full throttle, as if it is running too lean. Is it possible that I need to adjust the metering lever or do I have a vacuum problem from a worn engine? If its a worn cylinder is a new piston/ring likely to restore it or are these engines not practical to rebuild. If I cant do the work myself I might as well just buy a new blower.

lots of questions, best to do basic troubleshooting on the engines health - compression test would be in order, then a pressure test
(if you're able) will tell you about your seals,  you may well buy some more time with a ring refresh, but  you should  have data to help you decide if the cost will be a direction you want to go, does your dealer take trade ins?

I know your answer is the right way to go in general but it would take me some time to get together or make the various fittings to do those tests and the dealer said that for an engine like this with a lot of hours the most economical thing would just be to buy a new blower. So I thought I would try adjusting the metering lever for a richer mixture because it only takes a few minutes and costs nothing. I guess I got lucky because it runs great after the first try. Starts cold after 2 or 3 pulls. Runs good at all speeds, and accelerates smoothly. Starts after one pull when warm. The adjustment may just be compensating for something else, but it lets me get some more use out of the blower. I might still get a new blower because occasionally I see a new 150BT go for $225 on eBay and I would feel good about selling the 150BF as long as it was in good running condition.
