    Question:
when can you tell a drive belt needs replacement?
    Details:

48" deck, 23 HP YTH riding mower
Seems to be losing power in rear drive wheels - is this a transmission problem (no signs of anything unusual) or does the drive belt need replacement? -mower is five years old, normal use (about 1.25 acres of slight hill lawn) 8 months a year, drive belt never changed out - how can I tell if I ned a new drive belt?  Slipping Problem is about 3 months old- getting slightly worse

We have the same problem with our 54" rider.  It takes off fine, but after a little bit of mowing, there just isn't any power in the rear wheels.  We have a large mowing area with inclines.  This is not working out.  My smaller riding lawn tractor is doing fine, but the larger yard tractor is causing big problems.  The torque just goes away when the machine gets warm.  It's just started this mowing season, so about a month now.  Any thoughts or ideas on this yet?
