    Question:
I purchased my 240E Husqvarna chainsaw from my local dealer on 30th October 2012. I used the machine very little through the winter. It was working satisfactorily though not entirely happy with starting up. A couple of weeks ago I attempted to start it up, but had problems. After several attempts it started but kept cutting out. I took it to the local dealer for service and/or repair. His answer is that I have been using the wrong fuel and a piston needs to be changed and may be some other parts too. I have difficulty in accepting this version, because the machine worked on exactly the same fuel from the very beginning. I had purchased from them together with the machine a purpose made 5 liter fuel container and stored the same fuel in there all along. There is still some fuel left in this container. I did not have to buy other fuel and did not use other fuel, as I did not use the machine much.
Why should the piston suddenly give up after 7 months of using the same fuel? Please can you throw some light on this? Many thanks
    Daniel

      Daniel,

I would try a few things before having your piston replaced, hopefully the repair shop did not take the chainsaw apart, so here is what I would do:

      1. Remove and replace the fuel filter in your fuel tank with a new fuel filter, there should be directions in your owners manual, and the filters are very reasonable and easy to replace.

      2. Empty the fuel from the chainsaw, you can do this at the same time as changing the fuel filter, and get only one or two liters of fresh fuel, Do Not Use the 7 month old fuel, and recycle the old fuel.  Mix the new fuel with engine oil to the correct mix ratio per your owners manual..

      3. Fill the saw just a third full or so, and see If it starts and runs normally. Do not store old fuel for your chain saw, Do Not leave fuel in your chainsaw from season to season, only purchase enough fuel that you will use up in a few weeks to a month. Also remember to give the fuel container a little shake to agitate the engine oil in the fuel before filling the chain saw each time.

      I hope this helps!

PS. Please let me know if this works, thanks!
