    Question:
I have a brand new Husqvarna YTH24K48 riding mower with just over 4 hours on the meter, and I've already had to replace the battery once in 4 weeks. The other day after mowing, I pulled the machine into the garage and shut it off. A couple hours later I went out to clean the mower up and put it away, it acted like it did just before the battery died the first time. I have researched this in depth, and have discovered that this seems to be a common issue. What can I do to fix this permanently? I do not want to return the tractor, nor do I want to send it in for service and be without a mower for several weeks.

    Please advise,

    Thanks...

    Details:

I tried a battery charger on the first dead battery, but the battery continues to discharge even as I am mowing which tells me that the PTO is being driven by the alternator.

I can try and help answer this for you. I just bought a brand new gt48xls and was having problems with battery not getting recharged. I work at a hardware store where we sell and service husqvarna. So I called our mechanic. To make a long story short and answer your problem.  First look at the wiring coming from under the engine cover .  There should be about three to four wires. Couple of them should be running to a voltage regulator mounted to the side of your engine. Coming off of it should be a red wire running to a wire harness connector. That's where my problem was. The terminal had fallen out of the connector and wasn't making contact with the other side. This wire carries the recharging current for your battery. You can trace the smaller red wire on the positive side of your battery back to the connector. If all wires are ok than find a multimeter and check voltage of battery when running. It should be about 13.7 volts or there about. If wires look ok and there is less than 12 volts reading from your battery while running than one of two things are wrong. One is your voltage regulator or the other is your alternator. Hope this helps
