Question:

I have a Rancher 455 with an H80 chain. I purchased the 3/8" file kit and the teeth appear and feel sharp, but it is still putting out dust, not the pigtails like a new chain.

How are the guides filed down with the fitting that goes over chain that comes in the sharpening kit? The videos I have seen do not have the bent over looking guides. And those guides don't fit through filing slots for proper height adjustment. The instuctions on the back of the kits are pathetic.

Here is what I have found out, Any sharpening kits that were produced by us on or before the year 2008 did not have the option for the proper guide for that chain. Anything after 2009 has the proper guide in the kit. I'm not sure how old the kit you have is but the newer one has a part number for the guide of 505243501.

  I need help filing down the wide track depth gauge on the H80 chain. I bought a file guide too (#505243501) but for the life of me I can't figure out how the bent flange of the depth gauge is suppose to fit through the ' T ' shaped hole.
