Look at the gearbox that the head is attached to it will a have a hole for the insertion of a locking rod. This rod is about the size of a 16d nail. After insertion of the rod (you may need to turn head a little to get the rod fully inserted) and head becomes locked you can easily remove the head. The head needs to be turn in the direction of the normal rotation to remove. Some head are right hand threaded and other are left hand threaded. To install new head it just a matter doing turning the opposite of the direction the old head removed. Hand tighten only and don't leave it loose or it will just spin off during the first use. Don't forget to remove the rod when your done.
Thanks for the answer, but this 223L has no hole for a locking rod. I had read what you said in the instructions sent with the replacement trimmer head, but the only hole that is in the gear box is a nut where you put the grease in for the shaft. I removed the nut, inserted a rod, but there was no gap for locking. Is the only alternative to get a large pair of channel-locks and grip the flange above the trimmer head and hold it in place like that?
Sorry I haven't seen either replacement head here. Most customer here usually bring their own replacement heads and I install them for them. I am independent shop with no ties to any particular brand although I sell a few replacement that I get from Sunbelt Outdoors when needed.

Got it, thanks.
Do you know if the T35 replacement head will fit the 223L? I bought the T25, but it is much smaller then the current head. Any thoughts?
