    Question:
Chainsaw runs on its side but stops when turned upright.

Bought a used 435 chainsaw made in 2012. Previous owner said it will start on its side (bulb side up) but stop immediately when turned right side up. I've confirmed this info is 100% accurate.

Another detail...the primer bulb will not fill with fuel when upright but will fill with fuel on its side.

So I start it on its side, flip it upright and it stops like an OFF switch was flipped. Primer bulb will still contain fuel but there is no way it will fire, pop, puff or start upright.

First I would check the fuel lines for the not priming problem as describe as one have broken off in the tank.

As for dying after started on it side it still could a fuel line issue as primer is located after the carburetor in the return line.

There other problems that can the dying but the above first.

I checked in the tank with a strong light. Didn't see anything obvious. Carefully fished that fuel line/filter out and it looks okay.

After the original post I kept trying different things. I got it to start in the upright position but it only ran a few seconds, like its been doing. What I did was lay it on its side...fill up the primer bulb...flip it upright...it started...and drained the bulb dry. Bulb ran dry in 2-3 seconds and it stopped running.

I've never run into anything quite like this. I don't know the mechanics of the Husky so that makes it harder to analyze. Thanks for any help.

      William,

You will probably need to replace the primer bulb, they have a small check valve inside the primer bulb. The check valve is a small round red piece of rubber inside the bulb with a hole in it, I have  even seen them floating around inside the clear bulb, But this is the exact symptom of a primer bulb problem.

Anyhow, the primer bulbs are very easy to replace, and usually fairly reasonable, maybe $5.- or less from a chainsaw repair place. Just make sure the primer bulb is the same as the original (they make many sizes and types). Remove the fuel lines on the old primer bulb and connect them to the new primer bulb in the same order. "Do Not mix the lines up, or it will not work". Some of the primer bulbs are actually marked "IN" and "OUT" on the black plastic of the primer bulbs where the fuel lines connect up to it. "IN" means from the carburetor and into the primer bulb, and "Out" means out of the primer bulb and the line goes back to the tank.

I hope this helps, Please post to this reply if you need help, and let me know if it works out OK for you.

PS. I am not a Husqvarna Representative or an Authorized repair, just an experimental chainsaw person.
