    Question:
    576XD-Ventmaster Fire Ventilation saw
    Details:

We currently have a 576XD-Ventmaster and a 375k-Ventmaster and are in debate about how to properly store the saws for the Fire Department. I prefer the Decompression Button pressed and the Choke pulled for use. But we have people complaining that the choke is causing the saws to flood out. just lloking for some expert advice to have this passover.

the saws should always be evacuated of fluids, and run lightly accelerated until starvation kill. the CRV will always be closed while the saw is running,  they will not be capable of the torque necessary to cut anything, anywhere, anytime with an open CRV.

I may be reading the narrative incorrectly, but it seems that you want the choke gate closed while operating the saws?  that is insane.

both carburetors have adjustable jets for idle, low speed flow, & WOT.  they should be tuned and optimized for maximum performance based on elevation and air density.

I re-build/repair saws professionally, so I know a little from whence I spout off.  attempting to run an ultra rich mix with gate closed will pre-maturely cause top-end failure because of all the un-necessary deposits of carbon into the jug.  way too lean means too much heat, and too much friction resulting in pre-mature top-end failure as well...

please take sound advice where this matter is concerned...

Robert what I was looking for was during storage of the saw. I know that during operation leaving the choke on is suicide and harmful to the saw. But i have some guys here at work saying that the saw being left with the choke and the decompression pressed in is causing the saw to flood out.

any saw put into storage for extended periods of time should be put up completely empty(including carb) by dumping fuel and running until the engine quits.  while in storage, it is meaningless whether choke gate is open or closed.  if you intend to leave the CRV open, then I would pour a cap full of oil into the jug thru the plug seat and pull the piston stroke up to TDC 2 or 3 times. that will prevent atmospheric moisture from attacking the sleeve with surface rust, which starts to lower topend compression, and robs the saw of torque.  saw should be pristeen clean in the clutch/oiler area also...   that is my M>O<

and that is all I know...   follow this procedure and the saws will fire 1st pop after refuel/baroil fill-up.  put them away wet, and fuel starts evaporation immediately, but the gum stays...

you are quite welcome mr. couch sir.  but I really did not do much except share how I treat my saws.

should you guys ever endeavor into the foray of saw repair, just bark out, I will lend the necessary tips and share all that I know about it.  and my record of 100 percentile up and cutting remains unfettered. so give us a shout should issues arise that may be difficult to diagnose, or "how to" might not be quite so clear.
