    Question:
    Simply Thanks.
I would like to thank you for the quality of your products. I live in upstate New York where winters are brutal. This winter I found myself running low on firewood due to the extreme cold we were having. Early January I was cutting a 15 inch poplar tree for firewood that I had identified late last fall. It was 12 degrees F that afternoon. I had ensured a clear cutting plan for this tree and checked my escape route that it was free of obstacles under the ten inches of snow. After a second check of the site, I donned my cutting chaps, gloves and my pro forest helmet system. With a couple of pulls my 353 came to life. In a couple of minutes I had made short work of some deadfall near the base of the poplar and placed a notch on the downhill side of the tree. Moving to the uphill side of the tree I set to cutting. As soon as the tree began to fall I quickly pulled the saw and took a step back to make sure it was going to continue its downward movement before retreating up my escape route. Suddenly there was a crack like a rifle shot that I heard over the running saw. Instinctively I looked up in time to catch a glimpse of the tree coming down to meet me! With nothing but reaction I threw my saw and attempted to move in the opposite direction before the inevitable happened. The tree had snapped approximately 25 feet up and the force sent the trunk springing backwards on top of me. The upper half of the tree continued in the planned direction, landing on top of my still running saw. I caught the small end of the trunk (approximately 8 inches in diameter) square on top of my helmet before rolling off my right shoulder. The force of the impact jammed the helmet down breaking the inner headband, right earmuff, and the face screen was dented and torn. I hit the ground dazed but conscious. After picking myself up out of the snow I dug my saw out from under the upper half of the tree. The saw survived with a bent bar, the brake handle broken, and the brake housing was cracked. A trip to the ER informed me that I herniated three discs in my neck. I was out of work for 6 weeks with intensive physical therapy before I could go back to work.
I am convinced that the only reason I survived is the safety gear, particularly my Husqvarna Pro Forest Helmet system, saved my life. I would like to thank everyone at Husqvarna for designing, testing and selling quality products. Especially safety gear. I am alive because of it. I tell everyone of my story. I have had people say “I have all that gear but never wear it”. My response to them is this is exactly why I always wear my gear. I did everything right and things still went wrong. Hopefully my experience will get someone else to wear the proper safety gear.

    Thank you,

getting clubbed like a harp seal is a very humane way to go out. if you don't look up, then you will never see it coming. I can't afford another divorce. for some of us this is the better alternative...
