    Question:
I purchased a new Husqvarna push mower, model HU712AWD/BBC, from Lowes in August 2014. I like the mower but have 2 issues: one is that is does not pick up leaves well. It either blows them out of the way or cuts them in small pieces and leaves the debris on the lawn. I am using the rear bagging feature. Why does it not pick up leaves better? I have tried 2 settings, 4 and 5. The second issue is a factory issue. One of the screws came out that holds the rear bottom flap clip, so the screw and clip were lost in my yard. I ordered replacement parts and got new screws and clips but the screw only spun in the hole because the hole thread had been striped at the factory. Fortunately I has a slightly larger screw which worked. The customer service rep said he had 3 other calls on the same issue. Hopefully the factory has corrected this striping issue. I would suggest that Husqvarna have a slightly larger screw available for replacement for this issue.

      Bob,

I would suggest to check the blade orientation, and make sure the blade is not on upside down. Air should be pulled from the outside of the deck and blowing up and into the bag. You could also do a test of tearing up a a few small  pieces of newspaper, and putting them near the deck and see if it pulls them into the mower, if it blows them away then the blade is upside down.

      I hope this helps.

PS. I am not a Husqvarna Representative or Authorized Repair, Just an Experimental Mower Person.

I would have the blade brake clutch checked to see that it properly adjusted if it is adjustable. I haven't seen the Husqvarna BBC system yet here so I don't if there is an adjustment for these. I also couldn't find a parts list for 712 AWD mower but if the blade is like the one from the 725 pictured below it won't be as effective as a regular high lift blade as it is designed more for mulching than bagging. I didn't see any blade other than Gator style blade available for the BBC versions.

I partially disagree Karla in that the blade even if it was upside would it still blow air in the correct direction just wouldn't cut as well as you be using a dull leading edge. Also with blade design being of a drop step it could be be too high to create the needed suction if upside down.
