    Question:
    Traction belt problems
    Details:

I have a HU725AWD bought it about 6 months ago. Yesterday the traction belt fell off the pulleys and made a nice screaming sound along with smoke. Pulling the covers off i found the belt to be off the pulleys. I put it back together and adjusted the cable all the way and tried it again just to watch the belt fall off again. Very frustrated right now! I have had other mower go 4-5 years and never have a belt issue. So my question is? Do you only get months out a belt with Husqvarna? If so i wish i would have known that before i bought it. Thanks

one of the pulleys has most likely loosened from the deck.  if you examine the system carefully you will find the cause.  if the spring loaded tensioner is attempting to draw the belt inward snug, then one of the pulleys may have lost its bearings or torn away from the deck.  you must carefully inspect the each one. I have never worked on that model but careful inspection will allow you to identify cause and repair is straight forward.

Ok  I went through all the pulleys and everyone of them is tight, nothing bend or broke. To me it's like the belt grew 2 more inches in length overnight. Is there some place that i can adjust the tension on the belt system for the drive system? I can't where anything can move or be adjusted? The only spring i could find for the for the drive system is on the back axle to the frame and that more of a return spring when you pull it in the gear, it wants to pull it back and keep it lose. I know that probably it's making much sense. But i can grab the belt on the front axle pulley and just pull the belt off, it's like not tension what so ever. I can see 3 pulleys under the blade flywheel all of them are tight nothing broke, but here again i can't find any adjustments / spring to tight up. Can someone maybe provide a photo so i know what to look for? Thanks for all the help. Scott

okay scott, if you have handled every pulley and don't feel any play from bad bearings or from the pulley tearing out of it's screws, then what you need to do is look into the owners manual and carefully evaluate the diagram of how the belt threads thru the system.  if you don't have the manual, then pull it up on-line to show how to install the belt correctly.  I know this may seem dumb, but routing belts is very tricky and confusing to anyone that has not done it.  even a worn belt will thread thru the system and tighten enough to engage the drive weakly.  check it out.  good luck sir...

i have not repaired hu725awd  so i pulled up the IPL on the Husqvarna webpage.  there are 5 pulleys and in addition to the 5 pulleys there is the crank pulley which is directly centered on the crank shaft.  pay particular attention to the way it is threaded into the 3 pulleys on the left side of the crank pulley.  also the mounting bracket (key part #2 on the IPL).  if you have not looked at the exploded view of how the belt is threaded, then this is how you find it.   1.  go to Husqvarna webpage  2.  click the support link, a drop down menu will appear.  3.  click on "download manuals.  when the page appears clear the check out of manuals and enter a check into the IPL box.  4.  scroll down to the exploded view of the belt pulleys and right click to the "rotate right"  rotate the vertical view once only to make it horizontal view.   5.  right click to marquee zoom to enlarge points of interest...  good luck

the reason for the belt jump was probably debris winding into the axel drive spindles.  could be string, strong grass roots, I have even seen it caused by dryer lint.  clean it up with a razor knife and make sure of the engagement when finished...

if the belt is installed correctly, it will be loose from both the front axel engage pulley and the rear axel engagement pulley.  what is important is that when you draw the drive engage lever that both the front and rear drive pulleys engage the belt with enough force that the friction pulls the mower thru the grass uphill and downhill...

Robert, I thank you for all the info. Any ideas from anyone is a great help! I already cleaned everything from pulleys to belts and is was running. Hopefully i can keep it running to pick up all the fall leaves. Then over the winter i can look deeper into it. Thanks again! Scott
