    Question:
    Husqvarna 350 Muffler Issues
    Details:

I have a Husqvarna 350 chainsaw that I purchased from Lowes in Knoxville, TN about 7 years ago.  Model 96701800 - Serial number 041204604.  During last cutting season the muffler began to loosen and would fall off during use. One of the bolt holes became stripped.  I checked with a dealer about repairing and they told me that there was a service bulletin issued for this problem that suggested a new design of a 3 bolt muffler/head vs the original 2 bolt design.  With the kit being over $200 + labor to install.  The option would be to try to install helicoils to secure the muffler, but with that the repair would be around $100 +.
My question is would there be any assistance from Husqvarna for this repair?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you could offer.

    Hi Lindsey

Thanks for contacting the Answer Army to post your questions.

We did extend the warranty on these machines by an additional 3 years for a total of 5 years due to the service bulletin. Unfortunately your machine is an additional 2 years past our extended warranty so the " Good Will" assistance we were offering is no longer valid. I would recomend going with the helicoils.

Thanks again from the Husqvarna Technical Services Team.

You want to know how I fixed my model 350? I bought a Sthil. I'm done with husqvarna, the muffler problem doesn't solve itself in 3yrs. They should have given me the repair kit for free for the life of the saw if I could prove that I was the original buyer.

I also have the Husky 350 that I purchased 10 yrs ago. I've had the same problem with the muffler bolts coming out. This has been going on for a couple of years. I tried having the helicoils put in and even safety wired them. The other day I noticed the muffler was loose, again. I took it back to the repair shop and they found one of the helicoils had reamed out and may not be able to be repaired. The saw worked great except for this problem (and a few other screws coming out). I paid almost $300 for the saw and thought I was buying a quality product that would last. I'm a homeowner and just use the saw when I have a big tree to handle. I have an old Homelite from the '70's and it works great. It's a shame that Husqvarna put out a good saw with such a defect and won't ... at least give a credit towards purchasing another saw.
