    Question:
An idiot (me) with a 455 Rancher put oil in the fuel tank and fuel in the oil tank and went through the normal starting procedure. No surprise, it wouldn't start. I realized what i had done and emptied out the oil and fuel and put them in the right tanks, but it still won't start. Any suggestions?

First you will need to clean the entire fuel system especially the fuel filter since you tried starting as the oil probably clogging something up. Once done it should start.

BTW you not the first person that has done this so don't feel too bad. I have done things like when in hurry. I lost two brand new leaf blowers because pickup the wrong fuel can and straight gassed them.

      John.

Your in luck, since your model 455 has a primer bulb, just use the primer bulb to flush the engine and carb, Put about a half a pint or so of your normal 50: 1 mix (gas) in the gas tank, then start pumping the primer bulb, don't worry about pumping it too many times you will not flood the engine, after maybe a dozen pumps on the primer bulb, give the chainsaw a few sloshes back and forth to mix the residual oil and gas, then maybe another 6 pumps, and then drain the fuel tank into a recycle container. Put a fresh 50:1 mix into the fuel tank, and start it up, It should be no problem starting, it may smoke for a minute or two but the chainsaw will be fine.

      I hope this helps.

Thanks for thinking of that Karla. I should have thought of that but I have swamp with mower repairs lately; having to straighten out other techs goof ups is giving my headaches.winkbut that how I make my living.
