    Question:
This is a bunch of usage questions.
I have 10 acres, pond, dog runs, house, barn, etc... takes about 5 hours to complete my trimming. Nothing is very heavy brush. Just trimming the pond is 2 hours none stop.

Knowing the above, what is the recommended amount of time to operate a trimmer?

Do I need to watch at what speed I operate it?

Do I need to watch how I tilt it?

With this type of usage should service (oil check) be done before each usage?

    any model you would recommend?

    Thanks.

I personally managed a 14 acre min farm and working with 6 acre one. A good heavy duty brush cutter is probably your best choice. Most times your will find that a trimmer head is the most used with a brush cutter blade in reverse for actual brush cutting. These will be a straight shaft version with a clutch system. A curve shaft version I personally found to be nearly useless cutting fence rows, ditches, and getting under things.

I would stay away from the 4 cycle versions as most don't like being tilted for extend period. This due how they are oiled as which dipper style oil slinger. With 2 cycles there is no problems running tilted or even upside down if needed other than the fuel supply.

Another thing to consider is the weight of trimmer itself. This where a 2 cycles really works best as 4 cycles are usually a lot height hence more tiring to operator on long runs.

Most trimmers will need the bevel gear at head end lube every so often; just like keeping your wheel bearings greased.

These are just my personal opinions.
