    Question:
Model 50 Special Bar Adjust Sc rew Issue

    Hello -

I have a 1990 Model 50 Special saw, S/N 0200597. I lost the bar adj screw out of it yesterday (I think it broke) & that was my last spare.

I see a lot of screw/pawl combos advertised but most do not show the nut (Husky P/N 501 45 27-01 - more on this later).

I just called Husqvarna Cust Spt & spoke to a rep there, asking what the thread pitch is for the screw and pawl; he could not find that info. (Stens rep said theirs was an 8mm screw).

    So ...
    1. Does anyone know what the thread pitch is for the Husky screw/pawl?

    2. In looking at the IPL for the saw, it shows the nut being close to the screw head with the pawl being further back.

Based on the contour of the screw just below the head, I assume the purpose of the nut is to retain the screw if it should become loosened from the pawl, right? I.E., It is past the threads & lives up next to the plastic case.

    3. There is one bolt holding the metal plate in place that retains the pawl. Can the pawl be replaced by loosening that bolt & slipping the new pawl beneath it? ***Will the oil pressure seal, etc stay put if that plate is lifted up?***

(Hopefully the clutch & drum won't have to be removed to do this!)

Now, about the nut P/N listed above... The Husky rep volunteered that the nut P/N 501 45 27-01 has been superceded by P/N 501 45 27-02. But, if you go to the Stens website & look up their P/N 635-308 (which is all three parts), they show the Husky cross-reference P/N (for the kit) to be P/N 501 45 27-02!

Somebody ain't on the same page. The Stens rep at first said the -02 P/N was for the whole kit but then found a website showing -02 to be just the nut. Mmmmmmm - ok.

Can anybody shed more light on this issue?

    All help appreciated!

    Fred

P.S. Why is the word 'sc rew' in my text being replaced by three asterisks when I preview the post? Don't know what will show up when I actually post it. Ain't this going a bit too far???

What you calling isn't really a nut in the since that it threaded. It just a piece of plastic that keeps the adjusting bolt from falling out.

      Here is image of it.

What Stens has done was put together kit and is using the nut part number as reference number for all three parts so when anyone look ups either number it pulls up their kit. Husqvarna sells the parts separately. As for difference in part numbers itself the old number was superceded to the new number. This happens a lot on older equipment.

Yes all you got to do is to remove the retaining fastener and cover to replace adjustment parts. Oil hoses will stay in place unless you are trying to remove them.

As for the *** replacing you word apparently someone has flag it as profanity just replace it with the word bolt or fastener. Dumb as we use all the time as it is a valid part name. I have the same problem with words on Fixya forum and it is very frustrating trying explain something to someone and not being able to use the correct words.
