    Question:
Uneven mowing pattern when turning corners.

I purchased a YTH22V42LS lawn tractor and 42" LS mulching kit (966412901) last year. I noticed that when turning while mowing the mower was leaving 1/4" wide strips of uncut grass. I didn't really notice this until this spring when the grass was growing real fast. I did some research and found the following. The standard blades according to the OM parts list are 14 5/8" wide. The standard blades supplied with my tractor is 14 3/8" wide. The blades supplied with the mulching kit is 14 1/2" wide. I removed the deck and examined the gap between the blades and found a 1/4" gap. I can see now why I am getting these 1/4" stripes of uncut grass when I turn corners. First question, were the correct blades supplied to me? Second question, how can this mowing problem be fixed? Thanks for your help on this.

I feel sure the blades are correct, When measuring a lawnmower blade it is to be measured at an angle from sharpened tip to sharpened tip. If you measure straight across, the blade will measure short. Also as the blade is sharpened the tips will move back shrinking the measurement. Anytime you make a hard turn because the blades cut in over lapping circles it is possible to leave uncut grass. If you mow in an alternate method "clover leaf" drive past the end go out make a left turn 270° so that you approach the the uncut grass from a round about instead of trying to turn 90° you will find the mower will not leave those steaks. Think of this like an interstate clover leaf where you never get on the interstate.

    Hope this helps.  See drawing.
