    Question:
I have a rancher 450 that i purchased at Lowes. I want to use one of the higher end chains but not sure which ones are compatible. Will the Husqvarna 531300440 20-Inch FT280-72 Chain Saw Bar, 3/8-Inch by .050-Inch bar work with a rancher 450? and how about the Husqvarna 501842672 H47-72 0.050 in. Gauge 20 in. 72 Link Round Cutter Chainsaw Chain?

    thanks,
    Travis

Double check your current setup. IF I remember correctly the 450 comes with a .325 .050 chain and bar and in order to change over the clutch drum would need to be changed.

so am i stuck with a low kickback chain then? or is there an option for one of the better chains than the H30-80 chain that it comes with from lowes?

You can still use a regular .325 .050 chain but to use a .375 (3/8) chain would require changing the bar, clutch drum, possibly the clutch and oil pump drive gear.

I haven't done research on that conversion yet as I haven't any customer wishing to go through the expense of doing so. I did do the conversion to adjustable oil pump on my own saw which required a new clutch drum, oil pump drive gear and the adjustable oil pump. That cost close 100 usd to do not counting labor. I did stay with the regular .325 chain
