The issue sounds like the inner cables are simply not close enough to alignment to allow the unit to connect try turning the line head as you attempt to couple the unit. The drive shaft is square on the end and one fits inside the other if these squares not in alignment it could be difficult to couple.
The problem is that the cable has become unseated at the power unit and shifted down the shaft toward the connector. I had never seen this before I got this trimmer and until I figured out what was happening it drove me crazy. Sometime attachments connect, sometimes they will not connect.
To get it to reset, tilt the unit so that the connector points up. You may have to reverse directions several times to get it to fall into place. Don't reset your connector further out, since cable will soon slip back in place on its own.
This is a significant design issue that users shouldn't have to deal with.
I have the same problem. It is extremely difficult to get this to fit. I'd like to know if there is a permanent fix for this. Frustrated since the original post is old I'll probably never get an answer. The post says "escalated" but nothing seems to have been done!
