    Question:
Oil pump adjustment of a new Rancher 460 with 24" chain. The manual says that I should adjust the oil pump to increase the amount of oil the pump provides. The unit is factory set to Position 2. The manual says to set the adjustment screw to Position 3 for the 24" chain. How do I know when the screw is set to Position 3 as there are no markings or other indications showing any position?

With the saw on its side or upside down turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise to increase oil flow; clockwise to reduce the oil flow. There is a positive detent stop at each of the three positions. At least that the way the adjustable oil pump on my 450 II operates which is the same pump..

      William,

On the Model 460, you may not feel all three detents, but you should be able to feel the one mid-way or at position 2. If you turn it till it hits the stop in the counterclockwise position, it will be at Max . position and I would suggest leaving it at Max. Position.

(Just as a side note, the adjustment is actually a variable position, and not Just three positions, the adjustment goes from a minimum flow which is at a stop to a Max flow which is at the other end of the travel and also at a stop.)

      I hope this helps
