    Question:
ST 227P, brand new out of the box, Auger not working
    Details:

from amazon, everything fires up like a dream, but the Auger simply doesn't turn the blades, ever.

I am not sure what to do as I bought in November and haven't had to run it until now.  I don't have an easy means of packing this up into a vehicle to get it serviced, bought it on amazon so return will be a huge hassle.

Amazon reviews say the auger belt comes off fairly regularly, is it possible it shipped this way?

Also 1 other small issue, when idling and hands completely off the unit it creeps forward slowly on its own.  Not sure what is going on here?

Yes it may have got knock off during shipping. Freight companies are not as careful as you would think sometimes.

According an older service manual it should be a simple adjustment of drive cable as it may be just a little too tight. This is something that dealers should check for on the equipment initial setup but the online and the big box stores like Lowe's don't do this as they don't have the service personnel on site.

Lots of people seeing problems on these (224 and 227) with belts snapping after a few minutes of use. Is it possible yours broke right away?  So that to you it seemed like 'out of the box', but really it broke upon startup?  Mine broke about an hour into use.  I've read others breaking after just 10 minutes.

Husqvarna contacted me and offered to have the dealer pick up and return the snow blower, along with the obvious warranty repair.  I've heard varying experiences though, with most folks saying Husqvarna tells them the warranty will cover the repair but not transportation.  I think that's nonsense and would call again.  If need be, fill out a report on CPSC.gov.  Maybe these really should be recalled.

You can do a belt repair yourself, but need to open up the blower at the frame housing.  It's not a huge job but you may need a second person to hold the main house of the thrower when you unbolt it.  But, if the the issue is more than the belt itself you are not really fixing the issue.  My belt was frayed so I think its too much idler  pulley play and something metal is hitting the belt.
