    Question:
I bought Husqvarna Poulan PRO 5524ES snowblower in 2009. It is only being used for two seasons before. This year I used it for recent big snow storm. The oil leak was so bad after I used for more than 3 hours. I posted the problem and Eugene answered my question about how to take down the fly wheel in order to replace the oil seal. However, after I took down the fly wheel, I found out the leak was not from the oil seal at the shaft. It seems the leak was from the bottom of engine (from the rectangular hole at the bottom of engine). See the attached photos. Can anybody know where the leak actually coming from?

If it is the area right below the crankshaft it shouldn't be leaking there; unless, there is a crack or badly worn in that area.

If you can't see the area of actual leak you may need to re-assembly the motor and use some UV Dye for oil to trace the problem. That what I had to do on the JD ZTR's Kawasaki engine last Summer here. It simply didn't showed any where the actual leak was until I did this then I from that it was leaking the outside mating surface of the seal.

        Hi Eugene,

Thank you very much. I was so puzzled where the leak came from. I just wonder if I fill back the oil, that might help me identify the location of leak. So you suggest I re-assembly back the engine and trace from the leak from there, right? Just to make sure. Here I attached another much clear photo.

Shujun, Sorry for the late reply; had email server problems.

If the leak is at the circled area then mostly the crankcase gasket or sealant leaking. I have seen several engine here where the gaskets would be sucked in enough to cause leakage. The sealant type don't usually leak but could if it was not applied correctly or the bolts holding the crankcase together loosen. Oil does like to wick away an area especially when engine are mounted on flat surfaces.

        Hi Eugene,

yes, the leak was from the circle area. So the crankcase gasket is located on the top of crankcase or behind as seen from the picture? One time I saw some grey fluid came out when the oil level was low. Your reply will be very appreciated.

The gasket will be between the two sections make up the crankcase. Think of it as a oil pan if it was vertical engine except with horizontal it on the side. You will need to remove the parts on the opposite side of the engine to remove it.
