    Question:
I have a model MZ52LE riding lawn mower that after I use it for a few hours and take a break it will not restart. I have had it take as much as 4 days before it would restart. I took it to the local dealer and he said it started every time and he could find no problem.

Can you describe how it is acting? Is simply turning over the engine but it not starting up or is it not even engaging the starter like the battery is down on charge?

Also what have you checked? Example: Is there spark at the plugs when it not wanting to start?

It looks like you may have Kawasaki engine if the OM is correct.

It is completely dead, but I know the battery is good.  There must be some kind of safety switch that is not working.  I put the arms in the out position, have the break set and am sitting on the seat, yet when I turn the key, nothing.

There several things that can prevent it from starting if no response.

          Blown main fuse (20A).

Either one of the two neutral safety switches (both must be working)

          Brake switch bad.

          Starter solenoid bad.

          Bad ignition switch.

I first I would check the main fuse. (located under the seat area on the left side)

If okay then using a DVMM (volt meter) start checking for 12V along the yellow wire starting at the solenoid but first remove the spark plugs to prevent engine from running. This is done with the ignition held in the start position. I have seen power to at the starter solenoid but due internal problems with solenoid it would not engage the starter. Basically your wanting the 12 volts to show up at the starter solenoid when your trying to start it. The electrical diagram for your mower is in the owners manual. (available online if your don't know where yours is).

I checked the fuse as you suggested, no difference.  Next I disconnected all of the electrical connections to the safety switches, cleaned them and reconnected them.  I don't know which one wasn't making contact, but after doing the disconnect and connect the mower started.  Thanks for your help.

Glad you found the problem. If it does it again inspect the Packard terminals inside each connector. I have seen these spring contact terminals to break and loose contact ability causing bad connections.

Thanks for your help, and I will remember to check the internal part of the connectors if this reoccurs.
