    Question:
I have a 3 year old RZ4623. Twice, deck blade pulleys have broken requiring both pulleys and spindles to be replaced. What is the problem here? They have been correctly lubricated each season.

How are they breaking? I have seen pulley to strip out the centers but that because they weren't properly torqued and from blade impacts; don't usually strip the spindle shafts. These spindle are rebuildable so if the housing are not broken it while still attached to the deck.

      Thank you Eugene.

The plastic? pulley is breaking away from the point at where they are attached at the top of the spindle.  The thin inner part of the pulley is breaking, with the section with the bolt thru the center is still attached to the spindle.  This has happened on both sides of the deck.

Got some views of the pulley and it not plastic. I think I see what going to be the problem. It a design problem in my personal opinion. First it need to be a thicker metal as side loads are going to flex the metal in that area especially if the v-belt is too short. Being a soft stamped metal that is being welded on isn't helping the problem either. Now will the engineers at Husqvarna going redesign it that I don't know. This particular pulley has been in use since 2001 so I would think if they were having a lot problems with them they would done so by now.

I got an idea of how it could be fix but don't have access to one these mowers to try my idea on as I got do to some measuring of the parts. I haven't even had a single one of the Husqvarna ZTRs in my shop. Most my ZTR work is John Deere and Cub Cadets.

Now from what your describing you shouldn't need to replace the spindles each time but just remove the top nut and replace the pulley. These nuts are to be tighten to 55 ft-lbs after they are reinstalled.

Thank You.  I have forwarded your comment to the repair shop that is going to be working on my machine...after taking 21 days to get around to working on it!
