    Question:
I have an MZ5225 that won't start every time I mow. My mower is 3 years old with 44 hours on it. Right out of the garage it will start but if I turn it off and a few minutes later I try to turn it back on it won't start. I can ark the solenoid to get it to start but not every time. It cranks but won't catch. I've had it in service 4 times now to have the solenoid, ignition switch, brake safety, battery and seat wiring changed and it still doesn't start every time. The dealer can't get it to not start every time when I've brought it in. Could it be the starter? I'm frustrated. Thanks

If the starter isn't turning everytime just jump the starter solenoid then you may very have a bad starter.

By saying "It cranks but won't catch" are you saying the starter turns the engine but the engine does start? If so that is a different problem and we need to troubleshoot in a different area as it may may be ignition or fuel related.

If also possible that you have multiple problems.

The starter does crank sometimes but not every time. When it does crank the engine won't finish and the engine won't start. I did have the ignition changed out already.

Is it acting like the battery is weak and that starter can't keep turning the engine? If so have you adjusted the valves. Valves out adjustment can defeat the decompression system and starter can't handle the engine's full compression.

I know the recommended adjustment is every 100 hours but some engines need the adjustment a lot sooner and sometime the cam itself wears out early.
