James,
Eugene is correct...a pair of pliers does the trick. Squeeze the plastic tabs together and the cable can be backed out of it's bracket. I don't know if you saw the picture (in this thread) that I previously submitted showing the plastic tab attachment configuration so I will attempt to attach it again. I would suggest undoing all the deck attachment points prior to unhooking the cable. That will allow you to slide the deck to the side for better access for cable removal.

Eugene,
Sorry for the very late reply on this question. I'm not too swift with how to communicate in this forum yet. Anyway, it's a B&S Intek model. I contacted Briggs with the model and serial number and they replied that it indeed is full pressure lube with a cast iron liner.
Thanks for your reply,
Bob
Eugene,
I'll try again to send the back-side picture of the bracket (taken through a mirror). It shows what look like two squeeze tabs that may be the key to removal?
Bob
Eugene,
Looks like my picture did not come through...I will try using "attach a file". If that doesn't work, perhaps you could instruct me on how to add the pic to this post? Sorry for my ignorance with the system.
Eugene,
Here is a back side picture taken via a mirror. Not real good quality it appears to reveal two "squeeze tabs" that may be the key to removal? Your opinion?
