    Question:
we bought a mower from sears built by you a couple of years ago. last week it would not move. I found the rear differential mounting plates on the frame were both badly cracked allowing the axle to rock. Upon further inspection I found that the front differential brace only had one bolt installed instead of two and that bolt had broken. I would like to be reimbursed for the $120 that I paid to have the frame repaired due to this unit being mis-built. I await your reply, Bob Rothfuss.

Just one bolt was missing doesn't mean it wasn't installed. They do vibrate and work out over especially on rough lawns or at least every mower that came with frame problems customer were very rough mowing. I have seen this on several manufacture's mower not just the AYP / Husqvarna mowers. Plus towing heavy loads does put extra strain on these mounting points too.

The heavier frame repair kit will help though it should be welded in place after the mounting screws are in install to prevent movement. The anti-torque plate needs replacing if not all done as it will have a lot wear and the transaxle mounting holes reflatten for full contact. Personally I go one size larger grade 8 on the anti-torque bolts with thread lock applied.

when there are no threads in the hole to me it means no bolt was installed. if there was one, why would it rattle out? if this is a known concern i would think that the least the manufacturer could do would be to put a drop of thread lock on the bolt. this machine is not abused and does not pull heavy loads. pretty sad when you have to double-check the assembly on a new mower.
