Originally there were two different 338XPT units, California and the other 49 states. The California had a larger displacement cylinder (45cc). The 49 state model (38cc) 338XPT has since with in the last year or so has replaced the California only model, this gives us a common model for all 50 states. The 335XPT is the oldest of the generation of the top handle saws and has an even smaller cylinder displacement. So in part I am puzzled by the comment buyer beware, the California models comply to an even higher level of emission regulation than the other 49 states adhere to. The California models can be sold in all states where if there is a unit for the 49 states they can not be sold in California.
