That sounds logical and I'll use that. It really helps to understand how things work to figure out how to use something. I had thought it should have a full throttle at start up, but I can't lock it open like the old saws could. I appreciate your input.

Thanks for the detail approach to looking at the problem. When looking at that choke setup I got to wondering how the start throttle worked since I couldn't lock the trigger to a start position. A closer (fourth or fifth) read of the starting instructions does mention to push the combination choke/stop/throttle lever all the way down. Doing everything exactly as they say has the saw working perfectly every time.
I think the basic problem for me was that with the lawyers writing the instruction manual that there are so many bogus instructions and warnings that it's hard to get to the stuff you really can use.
