It would start right back up just to do it again. I let it set for a couple hours and tried again to get the same results. Should u just return it or is there something u can do?

I loosened the bolts nearest the engine and could not get, without forcing, the shaft housing loose. Next I removed the cutting head and could not remove the shaft from there (I did find a figure for another model showing a nut at the top of the shaft, if this is the same, that would be why I could not pull it out from below).
What is my next step? I assembled everything and for once, actually read the directions thoroughly because of the potential dangers with this tool. I put in the Husqvarna 50:1 special gas and tried for about 20 minutes to start it with no success. Didn't even think about firing. Did what the lame manual directions said to do for a cold start with no results. Tried all sorts of combinations. Prime, choke, pull. Choke Prime pull. Hold the throttle in while pulling. I almost feel like there must be some on switch somewhere but I can't find one. The manual talks about putting the stop switch in the on position but it's already automatically there. You can put the switch to the off position but if you let go, it goes to back.
Am I missing something here? It's gotta be something that I'm missing. Help!

I had to replace the carrier plate & mow ball assembly as they were damaged during use. String couldn't be clipped on the carrier plate b/c the clips were broken off. The mow ball assembly was cracked. I began reassembly but am confused. The locking plate spring had become rusted & stretched so I bought a new one. When removing the old parts the locking plate wasn't doing anything. The locking plate & retaining ring that I took out during disassembly & the new spring aren't currently attached because I have no idea of the right configuration for them. Not sure what they do. I believe the spring on one side attaches to the locking plate but where else does it attach? What does the locking plate do, just sit on top of the carrier plate, or? The assembly diagrams are not specific regarding connections/placement of the parts. Deeply appreciate any help or links to helpful material that can be offered.Details:
