Just bought a YTA24V48 FAST Tractor. This is an automatic transmission not hydrostatic. Going thru setup and got to purging transmission but found it impossible to following the instructions. However, before getting into all the details let me first ask if this is even necessary on the automatic transmission? From some of my reading, I get the impression the purging is for the hydrostatic transmissions and are not necessary for automatics. Is this true?
If not true, here is my problem. The Instructions start off as:
1. Place tractor safely on a level surface... with engine off and parking brake set.
2. Disengage transmission by placing free-wheel control in disengaged position. Here's where the problem occurs. The free-wheel control will not stay in the disengaged position while parking brake is engaged. If I take the parking brake off I can then use the free-wheel control to disengage the transmission but as soon as I try to set parking brake the free-wheel transmission control engages.
So I am left with the choice of ignoring the parking brake instructions altogether and just leave transmission disengaged and parking brake off the whole time (since to do further steps in purging requires releasing parking brake anyway). So if the automatic transmission also needs to be purged. it only logical to skip messing with parking brake... Right?
Finally, I have a question concerning the free-wheel control. On my old riding mower, this control had shoulder on the control that fitted into a slot in a keyhole that prevented it from returning to the engaged position. This new Husqvarna has the keyhole and the control that moves front to back but no shoulder on the control. The manual and diagram on the mower indicate the control having a shoulder. What's up with that?
