- General Product Question posted September 14, 2011 by Ed HeathQuestion:I bought a new "Weed Eater 1" 26" mower earlier this Summer. Unfortunately, I got it at Wal Mart in Scottsburg, IN, which means that EVERYONE THERE KNOWS NOTHING about the machine.
From the first day, the pre-assembled steering was very hard to turn. It felt as if something in the wheel assembly was too tight, and the wheel was 'bound up', or possibly lacking adequate lubrication somewhere.
I let it go for a while, thinking that it might free up with some break-in time and use. It did not, in fact it has gotten worse until I now get blisters on my hand everytime I mow, and my wife cannot use it at all.
I am sure this condition is not intended, but am not sure how to cure it. Can you tell me how to go about freeing up the steering wheel assembly so that my wife can at least use it on smooth level ground. That is now impossible.

I'm interested so that I can compare it with the Murray 30" ride-on mower that I currently own, which has a 12 H.P. B & S.
The local retailer could not even tell me.

Dealer says it started when they bypassed safety interlock system in their shop. Have tested all safety switches for continuity: brake, mower deck, seat. Dealer says there is a compression release switch that prevents starting, where is that? How to test it.
Mower suddenly would not (re)start after mowing for an hour. Battery fine. Previously usually used the pull start, with parking brake engaged, with no troubles. No visible wiring connection problems in the harness.
Should I just order a $70 replacement harness, how difficult would that be to install by myself. Any thoughts/ suggestions would be very welcome. - General Product Question posted August 15, 2011 by david malmQuestion:I recently received a replacement Weedeater One 26 inch rider. The initial mower transmission had failed. I also had paid more than $320 for a replacement battery and transportation to/from the nearest service center about 70 miles away. The new mower has been gently used only five times so far. The new mower is supposed to have a new/improved type of transmission. The belt on the new mower came off when operating at medium speed and will only stay on if the mower is run at the slowest speed. The loose belt slaps against the inside of the plastic mandrel cover and has poked a hole in it. There does not seem to be any way to adjust the belt. The steering is rough even though I have lubricated it per the operating manual. What might I expect to happen next?

I see that in the heighth adjuster there are only 3 slots. The top one seems to not make any difference in height so that must be 4 inches. I need to cut my grass at 3 inches so when I drop it down to the next slot my grass is too short and gets scalded. What exactly is the height for those 3 slots. I don't want to waste gas and mow on 4 when it looks shabby afterward but i don't want my grass to burn either by going lower...Can you help?!

I bought mine when they first arrived at my local Home Depot, and it's size and operation was perfect for my yard and so I sold my YardMan Yard Bug that I bought about 15 years ago. Another concern of mine is the steering mechanism. It has been caught on a tree root a few times, and the smoaa plate that attaches the linkage bends easily. This is a real problem and since i'm sure it's out of warrenty, what can be done about this? I don't think this should happen, and should have been found out before hitting the market. Any assistance you can provide will be helpful. I already had to buy a steering adapter and rod..............
